At STREEV Studio, we combine natural materials
with cutting-edge production technology. Our mission is to create a positive
impact on social and ecological contexts through production. Our approach is
grounded in practical research, and we translate these insights into intuitive and
locally valuable design. We use our expertise in software development,
electrical engineering, mechanics and industrial design to develop tools and
products for a diverse future.
The duo behind STREEV are co-founders and
brothers Max and Kay Boll.
Every product exists in its own context - from the origins of its raw materials and the hands that craft it to its eventual consumption and beyond. How can understanding this context empower us to make responsible choices that still meet our material needs? At STREEV, we only use local wood and believe that the product choice and manufacturing process determine a product’s positive use.
The heart of the STREEV system beats within our CNC machine KFVR, which we developed and built ourselves. It bridges the gap between logistics, manufacturing and production. It enables us to manufacture complex products from minimally processed wood in as few work steps as possible. Armed with a 5-axis router head with two individually movable workpiece holders, KFVR can carve any wood at any angle into a wooden slat. Pieced together, the wooden slats form complex structures, ranging from furniture pieces to architectural exhibits.
The KFVR machine assembles wooden slats using principles of traditional wood joints, eschewing industrial materials like glue, screws, or chipboards.
The KFVR machine opens up a realm of design possibilities, allowing for unique aesthetics.
The KFVR machine draws upon the deep-rooted tradition of woodworking, a skill integral to humanity wherever trees grow.
Kay is an electrical engineer with a background in electrotechnology. He brings a wealth of experience from diverse projects in software development and electrical engineering. His knack for problem-solving propels him beyond the ordinary.
Max is an industrial designer with a background in precision engineering. His work revolves around how we create things, why we need them, and how we can adapt them or their context to future needs. His keen eye seamlessly blends design and production.
